Phytolith-Based Paleoecology and Hominin Landscapes at Oldupai Gorge 2–1.4 Ma

Description: This dataset contains a total of 13 Excel sheets that comprise raw data phytolith counts from four research sites at Oldupai Gorge, Tanzania to comprehend the ecological and cultural transition from the Oldowan to the Acheulean periods. The regions are placed into two categories: The Eastern Oldupai Gorge comprises of Emurutoto and Engaji Nanyori while the Western Oldupai Gorge comprises of Olaiphtara and Emborr Nado. Detailing past vegetation patterns, the data offers valuable knowledge on how changes in the environment impacted early human behaviour and technological advancements amidst a significant archaeological transition. The sediments for these phytoliths were collected from off-site localities (non-archaeological digs).
