Data used in the main figures of the publication 'Cobalt-Loaded Carbon Nitride Demonstrates Enhanced Photocatalytic Production of H2 from Lignocellulosic Biomass Components'. The dataset contains characterization and activity data for a series of carbon nitride materials that incorporate different amounts of Co. Co was incorporated through mixing of Co(NO3)2 with carbon nitride and subsequent thermal processing. Pt was also added as the reduction cocatalyst to evaluate the photocatalytic performance of H2 generation from biomass components, such as glucose, lignin, and cellulose. Structural (FTIR, XRD, TEM, XPS) and optical (absorption, emission, TAS, TRPL) characterizations were obtained for the series of samples in order to explain the differences observed in photocatalytic hydrogen production. The data was generated to better understand the impact of adding Co as an oxidation cocatalyst in carbon nitride photocatalytic systems.
