Enzymatic degradation of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) using Hic cutinase
Description: | This dataset contains data collected on enzymatic degradation of PET caused by Huimcola insolens cutinase. This includes differences in degradation by varying temperatures which included incubation at 25 ˚C, 40 ˚C and 55 ˚C; pretreatments which included freeze-thaw cycles (FTC) and exposure to extreme temperatures, -70 ˚C or +55 ˚C; and plastic type, assessing the differences between laboratory grade PET and consumer grade plastic water bottle PET. Analyses conducted included mass loss, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) to determine crystallinity, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images for select samples, thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), tensile strength and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) to confirm degradation. Mass loss rates for each treatment are reported. |
