Effect of larval rearing temperature in early stages of development in winter flounder(Pseudopleuronectes americanus): dataset of a transcriptomic study

Description: Winter flounder (Pseudopleuronectes americanus) is a North Atlantic flatfish that inhabits cold water environments already impacted by global warming. Flatfishes are particularly sensitive during their juvenile stage to temperature effects regarding sex development, a phenomenon referred to as temperature-dependent sex determination (TSD). In this study, we surveyed four cohorts issued from three different spawning events during spring. Raising temperature and salinity conditions followed seasonal conditions in the St. Lawrence Estuary (Québec, Canada). As a result, cohorts were exposed to different temperature regimes during the egg and larval development stages. Once metamorphosis occurred, juveniles were either held at a stable temperature of 10.1 ± 0.8°C or 13.4 ± 0.2. Larvae were sampled at 20, 30, and, 40 days post-hatching and juveniles one and two months after metamorphosis. Cohort 3 has been sampled only at d 20 and d 30. RNA was extracted from these individuals using the PureLink™ RNA Micro Scale Kit (ThermoFischer Scientific, Waltham, Massachusetts, USA) and then sequenced with the NovaqSeq 600 method at the squencing platform of CHU de Québec – Université Laval (Quebec City, QC, Canada).
